Case 1
- A French technology executive sold his successful company. He created a new U.S. consulting company, leased an office, funded it and developed a detailed business plan. With a modest investment his E-2 visa was issued.
Case 2
- A German student graduated from a U.S. university with a degree in Graphic Design. While on his after graduation one year work permit (OPT) and a loan from his parents, he created a design studio. It is a “service” company and the Department of State rules recognize a service company does not need a large cash investment. The USCIS granted him change of status to E-2.
Case 3
- An Irish technology executive sold his company and retired at a young age. He decided to buy and run a California vineyard. He purchased the vineyard and with a detailed business plan was issued a 5-year E-2 visa to manage his vineyard.

They have a number of employees. Both were issued E-2 visas.

- A British technology executive set up a new company in California’s Silicon Valley. He funded it with cash and purchased domain names. He hired engineers to set up a unique social network. The American Consul in London required substantial documentation and issued his E-2 visa.
Case 6
- A Japanese firm set up a new U.S. subsidiary. The company is building a new retail store and will hire a number of Americans. Once payment was made on the construction of the store, the E-2 visa for the store’s manager was granted.
